Job Title: Mainframe Developer
Department: Mainframe

Role Description:
As a Mainframe Developer, you will play a key role in developing new system functionality, as well as maintaining and enhancing existing systems within Mainframe projects. You will be responsible for providing full lifecycle support for initiatives and internal customers, ensuring seamless implementation and ongoing maintenance. Your primary responsibilities will include coding, unit testing, bug fixes, and day-to-day system management.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities: -
- Manage technical assets, including interfaces for VESPA/Vespa Host, sales controlling systems, promotion controlling, competition systems, and campaign management systems.
- Ensure adherence to security, control, and change control processes.
- Design, develop, and maintain Mainframe COBOL and DB2 systems to meet support and project requirements.
- Learn and support various custom frameworks and technologies.
- Collaborate with business and IT teams to gather and translate business requirements into technical specifications and application code.
- Work with IT support teams (DBA, server teams, etc.) to ensure successful development and implementation of support and project requirements.
- Develop and execute unit tests and integration plans/scripts to validate application changes.
- Take ownership of the entire System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for assigned projects.
- Work with business teams to conduct acceptance testing and participate in integration testing.
- Provide Solution Delivery Methodology artifacts associated with application components.
- Participate in technical reviews at various stages of development.
Required Technical Competencies & Skills:
- Core Skills: COBOL, DB2, JCL, SQL, IMS/DC.
- Tools: Experience with release management tools (e.g., ISPW), Quick3270, and test management tools (Microfocus ALM).
- Background: Strong IT technical background with expertise in mainframe programming.
- Experience: Proven track record in software delivery, especially in requirements gathering, design, and development.
- Support Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve incidents (first-level support for aborts).
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Application Support: Experience with systems support, security reviews, and maintenance tasks.
- Testing: Familiarity with unit testing and integration testing processes.
- Learning: Quick to adapt and learn new technologies and methodologies.
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
- Knowledge of SAS/SAS-SQL, REXX, Microsoft Office (Excel).
- Experience in database modeling.
- Exposure to collaboration tools like SharePoint and File Share.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Technology.
- Candidates with a non-computer science degree must have a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
- MBA in IT, Insurance, or Finance is also acceptable for roles such as Requirements Engineer and Test Engineer.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in Mainframe Development, including design, analysis, coding, and bug fixing.
- Experience in the financial services industry is advantageous.
- Familiarity with COBIT or ITIL methodologies is a plus.
- Experience working with multi-location teams is desirable.
